Gene Quinney became my broker in Tacoma rather by default - I simply pulled his firm up on the internet while researching one particular house. Allow me to explain.

We are in Maine and were considering moving back to the West Coast to be closer to our families. My wife, Pat, began searching properties in the Tacoma area - Seattle was our first choice but seemed rather busy and expensive. One house in particular caught our attention; I emailed and then spoke on the phone with Gene in regards to this house on a Tuesday in early December. Realizing nothing was to be gained short of seeing the house in person I arranged with Gene to meet him at the house in 36 hours. I had to find an affordable flight first so called him rather out of the blue. Come Thursday A.M. I met Gene at the house. He had been given almost no lead time to accommodate me, had no real idea what I was looking for.

I decided to spend my one day in Tacoma, my return flight was for the following morning. Off I went. I was moving reasonably fast as this process had but a few hours to run. we came up with about 4 to actually go inside and look over. The last one of the day didn't have a yard worth a damn - houses in the Bungalow sections of Tacoma just plain don't, but it was a marvelous place that offered a short walk up to the Sixth Avenue gourmet ghetto, or enough of one to make Pat happy.

On the spot I suggested an offer and off we went to a coffee shop, of course, to fill out the paperwork. By the end of the day I had made a bid and was quite satisfied with what had been accomplished in such short order.

The one thing that made it work this time was Gene's willingness to work with me, rather blindly from his end. He did superlative work in helping me find what we wanted, answered all my questions about doing business in a completely strange market, and took great care to see that every i was dotted and t crossed in the process.

Gene was not there to be my buddy, he was there to see me safely through whatever treacherous waters I chose to dive into. He obviously understood his job better than I did. We closed in just over 30 days and are quite pleased. I might add that all the professionals that he recommended were timely and knowledgeable.
